Intestacy: What Happens If You Die Without a Will

In this second co-authored article, I explore the concept of intestacy—what happens if someone dies without a will. When a person passes without a will, intestacy laws dictate the distribution of their assets, typically among a surviving spouse and children. However, these laws vary from state to state, and complications can arise if there are no immediate family members. Without a will, the probate process is more complex and time-consuming, potentially diminishing the estate’s value. I discuss the importance of having a will to ensure your assets are distributed according to your wishes, avoiding family disputes and unnecessary delays.
